And It Begins

And It Begins

Today is the day. The ground breaking. The beginning of our actual Tiny House. For the past 5 months we have been designing, looking for a trailer, buying materials and parts (especially if from China direct as it takes 1-2months to arrive here), fitting parts to the trailer to make it road legal, and registering the trailer. Up till this point has been the prep work. But now. Now its time for the real fun.

The Tiny House is actually being built in my lovely cousins driveway (thanks Sandy) as we currently rent a unit in a complex with no room to do so. I’m sure my cousin will be sick of us by the time we finish building.

The Sub Frame:

Our sub frame consists of:
  16mm Chipboard underneath (weatherproof)
  90mm x 45mm wood frame
18mm Chipboard on top (weather proof)

We added the chipboard underneath so we could enclose the floor and insulate it fully. It also has the benefit of adding a little more strength. We had to extend out the frame at the front of the trailer to make it 7 meters long and not 6 meter.

We spent about 8 hours building the sub frame, insulating it and painting it with the help of some of my family. Having a nail gun was a lifesaver! It was so quick to assemble once measured and cut. Not to mention having a table saw. Buying the right tools for the job makes things so much easier and quicker, who would have thought….

We also ran out of paint near the end. Ill finish that next time. We painted on top and underneath the deck. Just to ensure its protected. Probably would have been easier to paint underneath before we laid the boards down but anyway.
