100 Small Jobs Later
Well. About a week into living in the half completed Tiny House, its becoming much more homely. Yesterday we achieved running water! My lord what an improvement that had. Going inside multiple times a day to wash dishes or get small amounts of water was testing.
Over the past few days, the office has been completed and is now functional, The Kitchen has all of the shelving including the food cupboard. I’ve installed shelving above and next to the Sofa, As well as some small shelving on either side of the bed. The bathroom is nearly finished….. It is, I promise. The tray and liner are installed as well as the toilet. I just need to cut and install some plastic strips to make it all uniform.
We are still living without lights. Slowly, all 7 DC-DC voltage converters for the lights all decided to die. I have new, better quality ones coming which will hopefully fix the issue. I am concerned that the touch light switches are causing the issues, as they control the earth wire instead of the positive wire. This may seem insignificant, however all of the current is drawn over the earth wire and I’m not confident that the light switches can output 2+amps required by the lights, as they are only designed for small LED’s. I have ordered all new light switches just in case. The new match all of my other fittings so that’s a bonus. Either way, I just hope we have sufficient lighting soon.
I have also installed new wires for my water pump. It seems to be using about 14 amps when running (its quite a large pump), which far exceeds what I thought it would require and the wiring amperage I ran for it. The new wiring runs underneath the Tiny House, as I could no longer run it inside the walls.
What’s left to complete (Interior):
Gas Installation.
Bathroom Door.
Bathroom Benchtop and Sink.
Black Trim Wood For Windows, Skirting, Cornice.
Flooring.
As for day to day living, the past week has been nothing but rain. Although the roof is covered in solar panels, we only get about 12 amps an hour when it is raining. Which would simply not be enough to run our entire house load of electrical appliances (computer, fridge, coffee machine etc). At the moment we are keeping an eye on this, but it might mean when we move to a new location, that it would need to be a powered site. I’m hoping not. Perhaps using the Prius as a generator a few times a week during winter is a better option.
