D-Day: we have moved in
We have moved into our Tiny House! And what a week to do so. Christchurch New Zealand has been hit by some of the worst rain and storms ever seen. Some places have flooding, damaged bridges, evacuations and states of emergency declarations. I’ve never seen so much rain in New Zealand before. The hardware store was leaking in every isle. My partners workplace had water pouring through the ceiling. Even the self made windows for the Tiny House needed a few spots siliconed to prevent water ingress. And yet, I had to move furniture.
It’s alright though. Nothing a roll of pallet wrapping couldn’t fix. I just wrapped the hell out of my bed and sofa, threw them on the roof racks of my car and drove on over. It wasn’t the greatest fun moving in the cold and rain though. Especially trying to get all the furniture into the Tiny House without letting too much of the sideways raining water inside. But it’s all done and dusted.
Despite having no running water, bathroom, shower, and working kitchen. The Tiny House is dry, warm and slightly comforting.
As an update to the previous post, the colour is definitely dark. Too dark. There will be some repainting in the future but there are more pressing matters to attend to.
Over that past few days i have installed clothing hangers, kitchen sinks and bench tops. Started building shelving for the food and other cupboards. I’ve even installed water tanks and rainwater collection systems. We have moved in some furniture including the sofa and bed which is making the place feel warmer. I’ve even got the TV and fridge running. Moved in all of our kitchen utensils, cups, plates, cooking items etc. The Tiny house is at the very least, liveable. Currently we are using the bathroom inside the house for the next week until our bathroom and gas systems are finished.
I shall continue to putter along doing small jobs between the rain.
Ignore the patched wall in the photo with the microwave. I cut a shelf too large and decided it’s going in regardless. A couple of kicks later and I was right.
Painting is finished
