Huston, we have a staircase
Can you believe its been nearly 3 full weeks of building to get to this point. And what do I have to show for it? A staircase, that’s what. A nice one though. I’m pretty excited about it.
The staircase is made out of the same wood that will be for used for the benchtops, office desks, bathroom top, and shelves in the kitchen. So it will all eventually match, which is nice.
I’ve finished (mostly) the framing around the staircase. The batteries and electrical wiring will be under the stairs. There will be removable panels for access to it all for maintenance and replacement. I’ve also managed to run nearly all of the wiring and have started installing and testing the interior and exterior lights, door and window unlock switches as well as the 12v plugs. The fuse box and safety switches have been installed. I have not installed the solar wiring yet as the panels are on hold until I finish the exterior cladding including flashings (I’m still waiting on parts). The alarm and RFID door switch have all been installed and working, which is always a good sign.
I ran into huge issues with the light switches. Chinese fittings that were too small to install two wires into the back of them. Meaning I could not continue a wire to another fitting or device. Also, these light fittings have dimmer switches. They switch the earth wires on and off instead of the positive wire (which is the opposite of about any house wiring fitting or even 12v motorhome electrical fitting). That meant I needed to run separate earth wires to each light (interior and exterior). Which was… annoying.
Next on the list are the remaining electrical fittings to install and test, as well as installing the water plumbing and systems.
